Piggyback Blocks & Assemblies
Piggyback blocks are used during pipelay operations to secure smaller diameter service pipelines, cables or umbilicals to a large diameter pipeline. The piggyback blocks can act as clamps to hold the smaller line firmly in place, or as a guide when the smaller line can run free relative to the large pipeline. In either case, the piggyback assemblies act as spacers to maintain a defined separation between both lines.
Bovill & Boyd supply custom made piggyback assemblies to meet exactly our customers’ requirements. We can supply blocks manufactured from rubber that are extremely robust but can clamp service lines or umbilicals without damaging the covering or coating of either line. Alternatively, we can supply blocks manufactured from rigid materials such as polyurethane or polyethylene that allow free axial movement of the pipelines relative to each other.
We offer a range of methods for securing the piggyback blocks including carbon steel and Inconel 625 metal banding and seals or Kevlar strapping secured with Super Duplex or Inconel bolt assemblies. We can also supply associated tools for securing bands or straps.
