Bonded Seals - Dowty Seals

Bovill & Boyd have been supplying Bonded Seals to various industries for over 30 years and carry a large stock of standard seals that are available off the shelf ready for delivery.

Bonded seals (also known as Dowty Seals or Dowty Washers) are based on a rectangular section metal washer with a trapezoidal shaped ring of vulcanised rubber bonded to the inside. The metal ring resists the bursting forces and limits the deformation of the rubber sealing element. The seal is primarily used in high-pressure environments where copper washers are unsuitable. Both the metal washer and the rubber material can be selected to suit a given application.

The rubber sealing ring is mostly supplied in black but coloured compounds can be supplied on request.

BONDED SEALS / DOWTY SEALS OR DOWTY WASHERS

A further alternative is Self Centralising Bonded Seals which have an extra lip on the ID of the rubber. This centres the seal at its location and will eliminate leaks due to seal offset with the added advantages of easy installation and reduced assembly time.
